Her father fails to be a proper parent and cares more about his own hurts and wants rather than the wellbeing of his kid. The LN's go into more detail, but I think the anime does more than enough to stand on its own. And watching Chikage rage against the unjust world was just painful.Ĭhikage's home life also hits a lot harder here animated. The way we see a bunch of different Chikage's in shadows saying all sorts of things to her was off-putting and the eventual reveal of her Trump Card as the source of those whispers was good. I like how the anime shows it and think it's actually an improvement on the LN.
So more Chikage is always great in my book.Ĭhikage falling apart was hard to watch. Yuuna (all versions!) may be my favorite character in the franchise, but Chikage is my favorite character in NoWaYu. So skipping over their stuff I'm mostly okay with, especially if it's in service of Chikage getting more screen time. Condolences to Tama/Anzu, but their role in the story wasn't really significant and their purpose was really just to die. Like I thought last week, they truncated the first half of the story so they could focus on Chikage this episode. I've always appreciated OP's that update along with the story, it's a neat touch. I knew there was space saved there for a reason! The NoWaYu group got more scenes like the KuMeYu group did, that's pretty nice. Seeing it animated just hurts a lot more than I expected. Dunno how much I'll type that this time around since Chikage's story always gets me pretty bad like this. This one hit a lot closer to home than I would've liked and honestly got me a bit depressed. I highly recommend reading NoWaYu to get the full picture (and learn more about best-girl Chikage!) I also really loved Chikage's transformation, it was so cool how the seven spirits appeared around her.
And Chikage felt like Wakaba stole all the glory, and even her place next to Takashima. People can be scumbag, especially on the internet.Īnd Wakaba isn't at fault but she didn't help much either, they have different mindsets and she failed to understand Chikage's pain. Chikage thought being a hero would bring her praise, but it's now the reason she's being hated instead. The heroes were risking their lives and yet people were ungrateful. The episode was so tense, it went by so fast!Ĭhikage really went overboard attacking those civilians, but I really can't put all the blame on her. There are several differences from the LN but I think they nailed the tone, and the great OST and voice acting was the icing on the cake.
It's no wonder since I'm huge Chikage fan. This episode was so good, yet it hurt me emotionally at the same time.
